One might call Billy Beane the Brad Pitt of the baseball world.
Think about it: he’s a tall, solid, handsome man who has aged incredibly well; his every move is scrutinized; and he’s come thisclose to winning the ultimate prize, but hasn’t reached that summit yet. So, then, it’s a natural fit that Pitt will be portraying the Oakland A’s general manager on the big screen in the upcoming drama, “Moneyball.”
Pitt takes on the innovative general manager, who has and still operates the baseball team on a shoestring budget, using groundbreaking statistical analysis to guide player drafting, signings and trades. In the early 2000s, the team went on an improbable run of three straight American League West division championships, headed up by a staff of homegrown ace pitchers and position players, as well as a number of cast off parts such as 1B Scott Hatteberg.
Jonah Hill co-stars as Pitt’s assistant, with Chris Pratt as Hatteberg and Philip Seymour Hoffman as manager Art Howe.
