Lil Mama Brings Down the Doll House in ‘Scrawberry’ Video

Lil Mama is back with a new jam. Flavor? No, it’s not strawberry but ‘Scrawberry.’ The 21-year-old Brooklynite rapper and ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ judge just dropped a playful new video — directed by Phil Lee — for the oddly titled track.

While Lil Mama channels great femcee MC Lyte, the entertainer and her crew act as dolls with attitude, dancing to a sample of Special ED’s ‘I Got It Made’ instrumental while inside a miniature doll house. All of this goes down as a little girl watches through a tiny window.

After overcoming challenges and dealing with her mother’s passing from breast cancer, the ‘Lip Gloss’ hit-maker returns anew, with attitude.

Though she’s making a rap comeback, we can’t tell if Lil Mama’s just having a little fun or if she’s consciously making a subtle visual dig at fellow female rapper Nicki Minaj. The ‘Voice of the Young People’ creator recently revealed that she doesn’t get inspiration for her life from paying attention to what she sees or hears. With her mention of the word “chain” and “doll” — Nicki Minaj sports a Barbie chain — it seems she has some beef with the Young Money MC.

“I don’t look at TV or listen to radio and say, ‘I’m gonna be a h– now,’ or ‘Oh, I’m gonna do this now,’ or ‘I’m gonna talk like this or ‘I’m gonna get a tattoo that says ‘I’m a doll,’ or ‘I’m gonna get a chain that says ‘I’m a doll.’ I’m Lil Mama til the day I die.”

Kelly Rowland to Go on Tour With Chris

Chris Brown & Kelly Rowland

As reported by The BoomBox, following yesterday’s (July 26) release of her much buzzed about new album, ‘Here I Am,’ Kelly Rowland has announced that she will be hitting the road with Chris Brown on his upcoming U.S. tour, starting this September.

Breezy was certainly feeling his ‘Feelin’ Me Right Now’-singing tourmate and expressed his excitement via Twitter. “This Tour is about to be crazzzyyy! Not releasing the dates yet or the other acts. Don’t wanna count my eggs before they hatch!,” Brown wrote.

“Me and Kelly Rowland, along with other incredible artist are going on tour!!!! I’ll let u know who else is on later!” Chris added.

Kelly confirmed the news an interview with New York’s Hot 97. “I’m also going on tour with Chris Brown in September,” she revealed. “I’m so excited about that.”

Lil Mama Takes Jabs at Nicki Minaj, Cries Over Mother

Lil Mama

Lil Mama may not have a song that’s hitting radio airwaves but that doesn’t mean the spotlight isn’t shining upon her. The Brooklyn native recently visited Power 105.1’s the Breakfast Club in New York City to discuss her break from making tracks like her once popular ‘Lip Gloss,’ however, things took a dramatic turn when she broke down in tears when speaking of her deceased mother.

After brushing off insults from host Charlamagne the God, Mama addressed the topic of sitting idle in her music career and let the tears flow as she got emotional. “Listen, I’ve taken a step away from music already,” the rapper told hist Angela Yee. “I’m getting back into the music now. My music will speak for itself. I’m not here to say what I’m gonna do. When I was 17 years old, I put out an album while my mother was dying of cancer. That right there alone is a struggle. That’s hard. That’s tough for anybody. But my music will speak for itself. My actions will speak for itself.”

Clearly angered over the lack of positive support from radio figures like the Breakfast Club hosts, the ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ judge threw out sentiments that seemed to corner Nicki Minaj. “I don’t look at TV or listen to radio and say, ‘I’m gonna be a h– now,’ or ‘Oh, I’m gonna do this now,’ or ‘I’m gonna talk like this,'” she said as she threw her hands from side to side. “Or ‘I’m gonna get a tattoo that says ‘I’m a doll,’ or ‘I’m gonna get a chain that says ‘I’m a doll.’ I’m Lil Mama til the day I die.”

While host DJ Envy claimed her remarks were shots taken at the Young Money MC, the ‘Voice of the Young People’ creator kept on with her statements that she will be using her voice to get back to the music she once made.
